Contract Developer, AI-Fluent

Go Labs is building a bench of contract developers who use AI the way it's meant to be used: as a force multiplier for speed and quality. If you're obsessed with AI, fluent with coding agents, and excited about where this is all going, keep reading.

About Go Labs

Go Labs is an AI consulting firm based in NY. We help small and mid-sized businesses adopt AI in practical, measurable ways. Our work ranges from custom AI agent builds to workflow automations to bespoke applications. Every project is led by a senior architect, and every developer on the bench works directly with the founder.

Who you are

You don't write code by hand anymore. You also don't blindly trust whatever your coding agent spits out. You sit in between: you steer agents with precision, you know when to push back on their output, and you actually read what they produce because you understand it.

You're current on the tools coming out of the frontier labs and you adopt them based on what actually works, not what's new. You're excited about where coding is heading with AI agents. You don't fear it. You want to be more productive because of it.

What you'll do

  • Build AI-powered applications and agents for client projects
  • Use coding agents to deliver quickly without sacrificing quality
  • Write strong automated tests as part of every build
  • Set up observability for AI applications: consistency of outputs, prompt performance, accuracy
  • Implement logging and monitoring so production issues can be debugged and resolved fast
  • Maintain clear, current documentation for everything you build
  • Communicate progress proactively: what you did, what's next, what's blocking you

How we work

A few non-negotiables. Read these carefully before applying.

  • Daily updates. You tell us what you worked on at the end of each day. Short. Specific.
  • Daily timesheets. Hours go in by end of day, every day. If we don't know what you're working on, we can't manage project costs.
  • EST overlap. Minimum three hours of overlap with EST business hours (9am to 6pm ET).
  • Hourly contract. Flexible volume, project-based. The bench is staying a bench for the foreseeable future, but hours can grow for the right people.

Compensation and classification

  • 1099 independent contractor. This is not a W-2 role.
  • Hourly rate, paid in USD.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on coding experience (you've done the work without an agent, even though that's not how you work now)
  • Fluency with coding agents: steering, interrupting, redirecting, validating output
  • AI coding tools: Claude Code, Codex, Claude plugins, MCP servers, skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Good product taste, understanding what works, what looks good, and why.
  • Strong automated testing instincts
  • Most of our work is in Python (FastAPI, Django) and JavaScript/TypeScript (Next.js, React), with Postgres and SQLite for data, Linux OS. We deploy to AWS and Vercel. You don't need to be expert in all of it. You need to be fluent enough with AI tooling to ramp into whatever a project requires.
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Comfortable with logging, monitoring, and production debugging
  • Familiar with UI testing approaches that use AI (headless browser testing, Claude for Chrome, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of how frontier models differ (e.g., what you'd reach for between Opus 4.7, Kimi-Dev-72B, and GPT 5.5, and why)
  • Use AI for code reviews
  • Attention to detail
  • Believes in documentation and keeps it current
  • Understands the business impact of what you're building, not just the technical pieces
  • Brings ideas when you see something better. Can take a no when the call goes the other way.

Nice to have

  • Machine learning experience
  • Production experience building and deploying scalable AI agents
  • Experience with prompt evaluation and observability tooling

Why Go Labs

  • Direct access to the founder. No middle managers, no account executives, no layers between you and the people making decisions.
  • Interesting AI work across industries. You won't be doing the same thing twice.
  • Senior architecture on every project. You're never alone figuring out a hard problem.
  • Work on the front lines of workflow automation and shape the AI transformation in companies

How to apply

Selected candidates will be invited to complete a time-boxed technical exercise.
